Wallowas - Day 4

3/4/02

Jon making exit preparations in front of the cook tent.

Monday morning - Allen and Tom did some more work on the North facing stuff off the ridge behind the shelters. My next morning's plan was to pack up - ski out - and make a short ski of Wing Ridge after dumping most of the gear at the trailhead.

Last look at the sleep tent.

Yee-haw - lined up for th ski out.

Unfortunately the sight of the truck, dry & clean cotton apparel, and a bit of a shoulder shiver caused a last-minute ejection on the final ski idea on my part. I had been thinking about a Super-sized Big Mac meal deal for the previous 30 hours and that idea was beginning to exert quite a bit of force as well. All the more reason to return . . .

The accommodations arranged by Roger Averbeck at Wing Ridge Ski Tours (www.wingski.com) were outstanding and made the weekend a pleasure. There is easily a lifetime of work to do in the Wallowas. Good skiing, good weather, and great company. Return trips are definitely going to happen.

Final look up at Chief Joseph Mountain on the trip out.
